Do not depend on men’s promises

In wedding ceremonies are various degrees of promises between the couples, the promises are commonly titled “for better for worse”. It is sad to know that some of these promises are mere fantasies.  Jeremiah 17:5 “this is what the LORD says: "Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the LORD”(NIV).  God is against you trusting or depending on man, because man can disappoint you and this can have devastating effects on you.

In the book of Genesis 29:15-20, Laban promised Jacob Rachel for seven years labour but at the end he gave Leah instead of Rachel. This is to let you know that any promise given by man can fail at any point in time. Some can promise you because of what they want to gain from you at that time. This is a common phenomenon in political scene in Africa, the politicians will promise to construct the road, create jobs, etc.; immediately they get into the seat of power they forget all the promises and begin to satisfy their own desire of amassing wealth.

Numbers 34:19 God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?”(NIV). Whatever God says or promises will surely come to pass no matter how long it takes. God can decide to use anything to accompany His promises.  In the Isaiah 43:2, God promised that “...when you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” This promise was fulfilled in Daniel 3, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow to the God of the King, they were thrown into the furnace and God was with them, the fire did not burn them Daniel 3:24.

Word of encouragement: Men may promise you heaven and earth but the only one that can deliver promises without failure is God. Therefore hold unto God, let all men be liars and God be the truth.

Prayer Point: Father let all your wonderful promises for my life come to fulfillment in Jesus name.
